Why are you a retina specialist?

My interest in retina stems from a deep appreciation for its complexity and the critical role it plays in preserving sight. During my clinical rotations, I was drawn to the intricate anatomy and pathology of the posterior segment, but what truly solidified my passion was witnessing how timely interventions—like intravitreal injections or retinal surgeries—could prevent irreversible blindness.

What do you enjoy about your work?

I enjoy being a retina specialist because it allows me to directly impact people’s quality of life in a profound way. Vision is one of our most valued senses, and helping someone preserve or regain their sight—especially when facing potentially blinding conditions like retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy, or macular degeneration—is incredibly rewarding. The opportunity to make a tangible impact on someone’s quality of life, often during some of their most vulnerable moments, is what excites me most about my career.

What do you find meaningful about your specific expertise?

One of the most fulfilling aspects is the ability to preserve or restore vision in patients who might otherwise face significant or total vision loss. Treating conditions like retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy, or age-related macular degeneration (AMD) can dramatically improve someone’s quality of life.

What do you do in your spare time?

I enjoy restoring old cars, traveling with my wife and 3 children and trying local cuisine while exploring the natural beauty of Northeast Florida.
