Retinal Macroaneurysm

Retinal macroaneurysm is an abnormal bulging in the wall of a retinal artery.  These lesions are associated with high blood pressure and can result in leakage of fluid into the retina, exudates, swelling in the retina (macular edema), and bleeding above (vitreous hemorrhage), within, or below (subretinal hemorrhage) the retina.  Retinal macroaneurysm is treated with injections, laser, or vitrectomy surgery.
